Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

1. What conditions do you treat?

We help with a wide range of issues, including sports injuries, back and neck pain, joint problems, post-surgery rehab, muscle strains, arthritis, chronic pain, and mobility limitations. If you’re unsure, book a consultation and we’ll assess whether physiotherapy is the right option for you.

2. Do I need a referral from my GP to book an appointment?

No — you can come straight to us without delay.

3. How do I know if physiotherapy is right for me?

If pain, stiffness, or injury is limiting your movement or quality of life, physiotherapy is often the right step. We’ll assess your condition during your first appointment and tailor a treatment plan specifically for you.

4. What should I expect at my first session?

We’ll start with a detailed assessment of your history, lifestyle, and symptoms. From there, we’ll test movement, strength and functional abilities. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what’s going on, a plan to move forward, and often some hands-on treatment or exercises to start right away.

5. How many sessions will I need?

It varies depending on the condition, severity, and your goals. Some issues resolve in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll be upfront about what you need — no unnecessary appointments.

6. Do you offer treatment for sports injuries and post-surgery rehab?

Yes. Both - whether you’ve had surgery or you’re an athlete looking to get back to peak performance, we’ll guide your recovery safely and effectively.

7. Can physiotherapy help with chronic pain?

Absolutely. Chronic pain doesn’t have to control your life. We use evidence-based techniques to reduce pain, improve mobility, and help you regain confidence in your movement.

8. What’s the difference between physiotherapy and sports massage?

Sports massage focuses on relieving muscle tension and improving circulation. Physiotherapy goes deeper — it diagnoses, treats, and prevents injuries through a combination of hands-on therapy, exercise prescription, and rehabilitation planning.

Treatment & Approach

15. What techniques do you use in treatment?

We use a combination of manual therapy (hands-on treatment), joint mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, exercise prescription, rehabilitation programmes, and education to give you the best results.

16. Will I be given exercises to do at home?

Yes. Rehab doesn’t stop when you leave the clinic, its an ongoing process. We’ll give you simple, targeted exercises to speed up recovery and reduce the chance of recurrence.

17. How long is a typical appointment?

Initial assessments are usually 45–60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are around 30-45 minutes, depending on your needs.

18. Do you use hands-on treatment or just exercise plans?

Both. Many conditions benefit from a combination of hands-on therapy and guided exercise. We’ll tailor your treatment plan based on what works best for you.

19. Will treatment be painful?

Some techniques may cause mild discomfort, especially when working with injured or tight tissues. But treatment should never be unbearable, and most clients feel relief and improved mobility afterwards.

20. Can you help me improve sports performance as well as recovery?

Yes. Physiotherapy isn’t just about injury — we also work with athletes to optimise performance, improve strength, and reduce the risk of future injuries.

Practicalities

21. Where are you located, and is there parking nearby?

We’re based in Scarborough - Cayley Court on Hopper Hill Road to be exact. Unit 39 just beside the main car park entrance is where we are located. Parking is available nearby, making it easy to get to your session.

22. What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area we’re treating. For lower-body issues, bring shorts; for upper-body, a vest or t-shirt works well.

23. Do you treat children or only adults?

We are not a specialised Paediatric Physiotherapist, although it is well within our scope of practice to assess, diagnose and treat children and young people, we generally would advise parents to seek out a specialised Paediatric Physiotherapist.

24. Is physiotherapy safe during pregnancy?

Yes, when delivered by a qualified physiotherapist. We can help manage pregnancy-related back pain, pelvic pain, and mobility issues safely.

25. What if I’ve already had treatment elsewhere that didn’t work?

Every physiotherapist works differently. At Reforged Physiotherapy, we take time to understand your story, pinpoint the root cause, and design a fresh approach. Many clients come to us after failed treatments elsewhere — and finally get results.
